Clay construction to Bronze Installation
1. The Silurian sculptures models were created out of oil based clay, wax, plaster and wood. 2. A rubber mold was made from the clay model and a final wax model was cast. 3. A silica sand mold was layered over the final wax model.
4. The wax was burned out of the silica sand mold and hot liquid bronze was poured into the silica sand mold. 5. The silica sand mold was removed and cast bronze features were welded together. 6. Patina surface treatment was added while the sculptures were heated up. 7. Sculptures were installed on to large dolomite rocks on the hillside. 8. Adults and children alike can play and explore the way life might have been, where Hartung Park is 450,000 million years ago.
